Presenting... "Ghosts That Dance (waag_rel018)" by Mystified

I have a whole heap of love for Thomas Park aka Mystified and the music he creates: the drone he released on the 31st December, 2012; is a fantastic piece of music … as is the piece he contributed to our end-of-year compilation. He is a talented chap and I am delighted to have him as part of weareallghosts.

And it is this latter piece - "Network" - which kicked off this four-track EP. It became the starting point for the music on "Ghosts That Dance (waag_rel018)". I was so taken with "Network" that I asked Park if he had any other tracks like it up his sleeve … and he promptly obliged with a further three vibrant, upbeat, slices of dance-y electronica … which I just adore. These tracks really came together nicely and it felt appropriate to release them as an EP … this included rereleasing "Network" … which I think really sets the EP off.

I have only one hope for this EP: that you really, really dig these tracks as much as I do.

My sincere thanks to Thomas Park for his contribution and his ongoing support for weareallghosts and the wider community that we are both part of.

Presenting... "A haunting we will ghost (waag_rel017)" by Jack Hertz

"A haunting we will ghost" is an utterly delightful and slightly spooky 16 minute drone from Jack Hertz who prepared this track to celebrate the first birthday of weareallghosts ... it was a spontaneous expression and I am grateful to him for it.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY WAAG + Presenting ... "Dronescape 003 (waag_drs003)" by Cousin Silas

On the 3rd of March, 2012; weareallghosts was born.

I introduced the world to my idea by quoting from "The Gift: How the Creative Spirit Transforms the World" by Lewis Hyde ...

"People with a sense of the gift not only speak of it as food to eat but also feed it (the Maori ceremony ‘feeds’ the forest hau). The nourishment flows both ways. When we have fed the gift with our labor and generosity, it grows and feeds us in return. The gift and its bearers share a spirit which is kept alive by its motion among them, and which in turn keeps them both alive."

This quote is still as relevant today as it was a year ago.





Now ... to celebrate our first birthday ... Cousin Silas and I decided to bring forward the release of the third instalment in the Dronescape series.

And if you are a creature of habit ... don't worry!!! Cousin Silas agreed to record a thirteenth instalment ... which is not just great news for ambient drone fans like me ... but will ensure an instalment will be released as planned on the 18th of March.

I really hope you enjoy this drone as much as I do. My sincere thanks to everyone who downloads and listens to our releases ... thank you for being a key part in the ongoing success of weareallghosts.

Presenting... "Times Escape (waag_rel016) by Scott Lawlor

Times Escape was originally recorded between 1996 and 1997 when I lived in the Akron Area of Ohio after years of gigging around playing in coffee houses and being a member of the Very Special Arts group.

My inspirations for the cd range from Klaus Schulze, Tangerine Dream but especially the sleep concerts of Robert Rich.  I had received one such concert on cassette tape from a friend in the mail and after listening to it while I slept at night, I wanted to try my hand at composing space music.  I had long been a fan of such artists as Jonn Serrie, Tangerine Dream and the like so the Times Escape collection was my first attempt at composing a more ambient flowing work.

I came up with the title after listening to the entire set of tracks because I felt that a sense of time was lost while listening so that title seemed to fit the mood of the music.

It was recorded exclusively on an Ensoniq SQ-1 synthesiser that I had for years and the sequences were recorded to cassette tape.  at the time I didn't know anything about recording audio on the computer so cassette was the way I captured my ideas and songs.  In that regard, the collection has a lost archive feel to it since it was years before I transferred the cassette to a digital format.

I am deeply grateful to Thomas for wanting to release this collection on his internet label and am honoured to be on a roster with so many great artists. I look forward to composing and releasing more music as time allows and I sincerely hope you enjoy the music and it is my hope that you will experience your own journey of the absence of time while listening to Times Escape.

The collection that is Times Escape (waag_rel016) really does have the lost archive feel that Scott alludes to in his notes above. It spoke to me in a special way when I heard it and I just knew I had to release it. I felt I had uncovered something beautiful and I couldn't keep it to myself. I had to share it.

So here it is: Times Escape (waag_rel016) … an album 17 years in the making. I will say no more for Scott has said it for me, suffice to say, I hope you enjoy this release as much as I do and look out for more music from Scott in the coming months.

Presenting... "Dronescape 002 (waag_drs002)" by Cousin Silas

This is the second in our Dronescape series ... and the second of 12 drones planned from Cousin Silas.

Cousin Silas has created another longform piece that I find deeply atmospheric and all-encompassing ... a piece that allows me to switch off from the busyness of the world and focus on whatever it is I am doing ... in the moment.

I think that's the key for me ... the key to why I love these pieces so much ... they give me a sense of the moment. Time stops and I just am. I don't need to worry about what is coming next. I don't need to fear the interruption that comes from the silence between tracks. I can just be ... and I can focus on the now of whatever it is that occupies my head, my heart or my hands.

I hope you gain something meaningful from this dronescape.

Presenting... "Silas & Friends volume 1 (waag_rel015)"

I'll be honest. Cousin Silas is the reason I started this netlabel. I loved his music so much that I wanted to provide an outlet for it. 10 months later and weareallghosts presents his latest collection of ambient soundscapes ... music worked in partnership with some really cool people. This is a record I am very proud to release and one I know will stand the test of time.

Here's what I had to say on the release notes:

Cooperation is defined as "an act or instance of working or acting together for a common purpose or benefit."

Silas & Friends volume 1 (waag_rel015) is a prime example of cooperation in action. Cousin Silas has cooperated with some of the best artists in the ambient genre - Phillip Wilkerson, Bing Satellites, emptywhale, Chris Lynn, Gareth Jones, and Daniel Prendiville - to make some wondrous ambient soundscapes.

Each soundscape is unique to the individual partnership, a product of their pairing. Each track stands alone in this regard.

And yet, this album is wonderfully cohesive, with Cousin Silas bringing it all together nicely and making something beautiful indeed. Something that will stand the test of time.

What's more - inspired by the cooperation embodied by Cousin Silas - I worked with photographer, Basil, and illustrator, Adam Howie, to create a cover fit for this album, one that eloquently represents the music presented.

This project has been an eye-opener for me. It has shown me what can be done when like-minded people come together to work on a common task. I hope you will be as inspired as I am with what can and is possible when creative people work together.

Silas & Friends volume 1 (waag_rel015) is a collection of collaborations by Cousin Silas and his friends. The album features some utterly delightful ambient soundscapes ... the result of some excellent partnerships with the likes of Phillip Wilkerson, Chris Lynn, Bing Satellites and a number of others ... folks who will be revealed in due course.

For an ambient music fan, this has been a true pleasure to watch evolve ... and I am proud to bring this album home to weareallghosts ... it is something I am very proud of.
