In the Green Light (waag_rel056) by Ade Hodges & Cousin Silas is the next instalment in an ongoing series of collaborations between the two artists. It features six earthy, nearly impenetrable walls-of-sound that are not for the claustrophobic.

In the Green Light (waag_rel056) is an immense album of truly immersive beauty, one that is as spatial as it is aural. There is both a breadth and a density within these tracks that takes the listener's breath away, it is as if Hodges and Silas have recorded the essence of wonder from the natural world and are replaying it for your listening pleasure.

And a pleasure it is. This is music to get lost within, music for escape, and I for one absolutely love it.

I welcome this collaboration and look forward to more from the pairing of Ade Hodges & Cousin Silas. I hope you will enjoy it as much as I do.

Presenting ... "Space Time Mantra (waag_rel042)" by Ade Hodges & Cousin Silas

"Space Time Mantra (waag_rel042)" is a wonderful series of darker ambient soundscapes from Ade Hodges and Cousin Silas ... a collaborative collection of sci-fi music that could easily act as the soundtrack to our favourite stories by the likes of Lovecraft and Ballard.

Both expansive & dystopian, these sounds present the future of our dreams as being more akin to the stuff of our nightmares ... they give the listener an all too brief insight into the eerie unsettling liminal state just beyond our reckoning, just beyond our remembering, where we span two worlds and stare into the deepest recesses of the unknown.

I found them utterly fascinating and could not wait to share them with you. I am delighted with progress being made by Ade Hodges ... he really is coming into his own ... and similarly delighted with apparent boundless imagination of Cousin Silas. This is a release I am proud to add to the waag canon.

Presenting ... "The birth pains of Titan 6 (waag_rel039)" by Ade Hodges

"The birth pains of Titan 6 (waag_rel039)" is the soundtrack to a story that has yet to be told about the ill-fated sixth colony on Titan.

It also marks the solo debut on weareallghosts of a man steeped in both ambient music and pulp science fiction - Ade Hodges.

I've had this album for a wee while and have really enjoyed the themes it presents ... Ade has gone out his way to create an album that could easily be the soundtrack to a cult sci-fi film ... something dark and unsettling.

I particularly like the photo he asked me to use for the cover ... it is a natural colour composite of Titan that was taken during the Cassini spacecraft's April 16, 2005, flyby. According to the Wiki page, it is a combination of images taken through three filters that are sensitive to red, green and violet light.

I am proud to welcome Ade in his own right to weareallghosts and look forward to the future.

Presenting ... "The Silent Citadel (waag_rel033)" by Silas + Hodges + Lyons

In late August I travelled to deepest, darkest Yorkshire to hang out with Cousin Silas and two of his chums - musician and film geek, Kevin Lyons, and painter and music-fan, Ade Hodges - over a weekend. We filled the days with music and film; sci-fi and books; bacon sandwiches, pizza, and curry; in what was one of the nerdiest weekends I've had in ages. We filled the days so well that we failed to do what we intended: to record, package and release some music.

Instead, we dreamed fantastic sci-fi dreams … hatched plans and generally looked to the future. More practically, I worked on the artwork for Kevin's second release on waag (Seconds (waag_rel027)). We did record something … but nothing like what I, myself, had hoped for.

Thankfully, however, the chaps got their act together when I left (hmm … maybe I was the distraction???) and recorded some wonderfully vivid ambient soundscapes … that, after a bit of spit and polish from our favourite Cousin, are presented to you now for your listening pleasure.

I look back on that weekend with fondness. It was a magical weekend … one I hope to relive. I don't get the chance to talk about 70s prog rock and the cover art of pulp sci-fi novels very often … at least with folks whose eyes don't glaze over almost immediately. It was a special time and, I think, this is encapsulated in the music presented in "The Silent Citadel (waag_rel033)".

The internet is a wonderful enabler for collaboration and Silas is a wonderful collaborator. In fact, the recent "Silas & Friends vol.2 (waag_rel032)" was birthed entirely online. "The Silent Citadel (waag_rel033)", on the other hand, wasn't. It was conceived and created by three blokes sharing the same space and time … working together in such close synchronicity that it was a pleasure to watch. Whilst I didn't get to sit in on much of the actual recording … my name being attached to what was the first real track to come from the session and the only one I was witness to … I did get to experience the chemistry of the group and I can testify to it … whatever 'it' is … being something very special indeed.

I hope you enjoy these tracks as much as I do.
