Presenting ... "Invisible Sounds, Inaudible Sights (waag_rel049)" by Kevin Lyons

Kevin Lyons' music just gets better and better, in my opinion and  "Invisible Sounds, Inaudible Sights (waag_rel049)" is up there with one of the best albums we've ever released on weareallghosts.

The album is haunting from the start with the vocal samples used in 'Solstice' taking no prisoners from the off. "Invisible Sounds, Inaudible Sights (waag_rel049)" is an ambient tour de force, each track having its own magical expression. Tracks like 'You will become like us' with its otherworldly eeriness or 'distant suns' with its Lovecraftian grandeur really demonstrate how exceptional this album is.

You will note that two versions of 'Cradle Hill' are included: the original and an alternate take. When Lyons sent me through a second version of the track I just couldn't choose which one should be included ... so I included them both. I hope you will agree that they both have a place on this album?

I found "Invisible Sounds, Inaudible Sights (waag_rel049)" to be an exceptional album. Lyons really has taken his music to the next level and I am so proud that he remains with the weareallghosts netlabel. I truly hope you enjoy this album as much as I have.

An MP3 version of this album is available for free on Archive or a lossless version available on Bandcamp for 'pay what you want' which does include £0 ... and remember, paying supporters on Bandcamp also get unlimited mobile access to the album using the free Bandcamp listening app.

If you do decide to download this album for free then all we ask in return is that you tell your friends, tweet a link or post it on Facebook, write a review and spread the word.

Presenting ... "Tales of Space Exploration 17 - 24 (waag_rel048)" by Brother Saturn

"Tales of Space Exploration 17 - 24 (waag_rel048)" marks the further continuation of Drew Miller aka Brother Saturn's "Tales of Space Exploration" series for weareallghosts. Miller picks up where he left off in waag_rel031 … continuing to document his journey into the deepest realms of the galaxy through ambient music.

Once more I hear real progression in these tracks … Miller is continuing to grow as a musician. He continues to explore the themes of travel, desolation, home and of loneliness with these further 8 tracks.

As before, Adam Howie has expertly expressed these themes in his cover art. His piece - "The Warm Embrace of the Final Chill" - will be available for sale as a print at devinatArt (kimded.deviantart.com/prints/) and RedBubble (redbubble.com/people/lurchkimded) … and is also included as a wallpaper in the Bandcamp release. As before, I would heartily encourage you to support Howie's work by buying a print.

"Without Sin (waag_rel047)" by Matthew VandenBrook

----------

I am deeply honoured to present "Without Sin (waag_rel047)" from Detroit based musician Matthew VandenBrook and am proud to welcome him to the weareallghosts community.

"Without Sin (waag_rel047)" is a fitting piece to be released on Good Friday, 2014 ... and while each listener will make of it what they will ... I, for one, have received remarkable inspiration from this piece as I have walked my own, personal Lenten journey.

It is a dark, brooding piece of longform ambient music that threatens to break out into glorious celebration at any moment. It has a sense of anticipation that I find infectious ... it draws you in as a listener and carries you along with the thought: 'what comes next?' ... there is a percussive sound, for example, that could be soldiers marching ... there are voices that appear as if they are on the wind ... there is a tolling bell near the end ... it is a fascinating journey.

I am grateful to Matthew VandenBrook for submitting "Without Sin (waag_rel047)" and am proud to add it to the weareallghosts canon. I look forward to the possibility of more from him.

I hope you enjoy "Without Sin (waag_rel047)"as much as I do.

An MP3 version of this album is available for free on Archive or a lossless version available on Bandcamp for 'pay what you want' which does include £0.

Presenting ... "drone.excursion.002 (waag_dex002)" by Scott Lawlor

In case you missed it last month ... Scott Lawlor has been inspired by the work of Cousin Silas and is going on his own journey into post-sixty minute soundscapes. He intends to producing a series of these drone.excursion longform pieces and I am proud to support him with this endeavour.

drone.excursion.002 (waag_dex002) aka 'Into the Industrial Complex' is a subtler piece ... less dissonant than the first drone.excursion whilst still retaining the sense of movement that was conveyed by it's predecessor. It gives the impression of artifice ... of the man-made ... and yet is no less relaxing.

drone.excursion.002 (waag_dex002) is really rather a delightful longform drone and I really do hope you will enjoy it as much as I have.

An MP3 version of this piece is available for free on Archive or a lossless version available on Bandcamp for 'pay what you want' which does include £0 ... and remember, paying supporters on Bandcamp also get unlimited mobile access to the album using the free Bandcamp listening app.

If you do decide to download this piece for free then all we ask in return is that you tell your friends, tweet a link or post it on Facebook, write a review and spread the word.

Presenting ... "Dronescape 017 (waag_drs017)" by Cousin Silas

----------

May I start off with a big thanks to both Thomas Mathie and Cousin Silas for giving me the opportunity to write the liner notes for the 17th release of the Dronescape Series.

That said, I'd like to talk about the "cancerous bubble" that began to grow as a result of this opportunity - an ego bubble, I would imagine.

It began with a series of email conversation which eventually led to my thinking I might offer Cousin Silas a few ideas on his dronescapes!

I hear you all now.

"SAY WHAT?"

My reply to you would be... yeah, do you believe it?

Do you believe that, "I", a mere mortal, was attempting to shape the musical direction of the dronescape series, of Cousin Silas's art, and worst of all, your listening pleasure!

I thought to myself, this was akin to standing in the same room as Picasso and saying, "Ya know, what do you think if that big eye on the canvas were a bit smaller?"

"And, the direction it is pointing, that's definitely all wrong!"

Fortunately for all of us, I bit my tongue, and decided to leave the big eye as it was... a BIG eye. And the direction it was pointing.........PERFECT! It couldn't be better! Thus, this means that Cousin Silas's dronescapes will be exactly that, Cousin Silas's Dronescapes.

And this is a good thing, because Dronescape 17 is pure pleasure. It moves throughout, like the ebb and flow of tides, offering up swells of angelic voices, eddies of wonder, mystery, and if you listen carefully, even a splash of discord. Finally, on rare moments, there are deep rumblings, that are perhaps just gestures, or maybe they foreshadow things to come. ;)

Either way, it's all good. Enjoy it fellow listeners!

- Brian Bourassa

----------

I hope you will enjoy this dronescape as much as I do ... my thanks to Brian for writing the liner notes and providing the cover imagery ... he's been an ardent fan of our longform drones and I thought it would be interesting to get him involved. I'm glad I did.

A lossless version available on Bandcamp for 'pay what you want' which does include £0.

We are currently exploring options for a physical Cousin Silas release ... albeit progress has been hampered by my recent illness. Any funds raised by 017 will go towards this.

If you do decide to download this album for free then all we ask in return is that you tell your friends, tweet a link or post it on Facebook, write a review and spread the word.

We will post more information regarding the physical release in due course but for now ... enjoy 017.

Please Note: For some reason unbeknown to me, uploading to Archive isn't working. As such, there isn't an MP3 version of this release on there. If Archive is your thing, please don't hesitate to download for free from Bandcamp.

Presenting ... "You are Alison G. Madrigal (waag_rrl003)" by Alison G. Madrigal

"You are Alison G. Madrigal (waag_rrl003)" by Alison G. Madrigal is an interesting listen ... so interesting, in fact, that I agreed to release it on weareallghosts.

"Who is Alison G. Madrigal?" I hear you ask ... I can't say for sure for she is shrouded in secrecy. I do believe, however, that Todd Elliott aka Toaster is involved with this project in some way ... he introduced me to her, for one, and the sounds bear a cunning similarity to some of his output.

Does it matter? No, I don't think so. Knowing who she is ... or not knowing, as is the case here ... doesn't detract from the soundscapes presented. These are difficult, dissonant sounds for folks who like the complex ... the intricate ... and the difficult. Think "I care because you do" by Aphex Twin and you'll get where Madrigal is coming from.

This isn't ambient music and it certainly isn't music for a date ... far from it, in fact. This is music for the head that has a wonderfully abstract nature to it that ... well ... needs to be felt.

And it is in this contrary world that Madgrial weaves her magic ... creating soundscapes that appear, at first, to be difficult to comprehend but with time and a smidgen of patience ultimately reward the listener.

I hope you enjoy "You are Alison G. Madrigal (waag_rrl003)" by Alison G. Madrigal as much as I have.

An MP3 version is available for free on Archive and lossless version is available on Bandcamp for 'pay what you want' which does include £0.
